May 21 - Americus Travelers 15 and Under

The 17&U Travelers lost to the 15&U Travelers team, 8-5. Starting pitcher was Blaze Hargrove; in all, four pitchers were used, including Josh Brown, Nathan Greene and Brad Jackson. Brown fanned a pair in his first inning (game 3rd). The Travelers put runners on the board via a pair walked, then a deuce out hit by Scott Schuman. Zach Slaughter would post a hit in the 4th frame; Brown also struck out another pair. Nathan Greene took to the mound for the fifth and sixth innings, catching a bunted ball in the former, striking out the side in the latter. Greene would also have a hit in the Travelers' sixth inning.

In the eighth, Cam Ellis posted a single to put a pair of runners on. Score #3 came via a wild pitch. Dexter Lashley then hit a triple to plate Ellis, and Slaughter's deep fly ball brought in Lashley. Jackson pitched the final three innings and had five strikeouts.

May 22 - Macon Mudcats

The 17U Travelers team bounced back against the Macon Mudcats with a 6-3 victory. The team once again had trouble on defense, yielding three unearned runs. (Coach Slaughter: "The way we pitched, our pitchers should have had a shutout.") Cam Ellis, Dexter Lashley, and Scott Shuman all saw time on the mound; Shuman was the winning pitcher.

May 27-29 - Post 30 Memorial Day Tournament @ Albany

The 17U Americus Travelers went two for two in the Post 30 Memorial Day Tournament in Albany to come in second place.

Albany Post 30 - Won 8-4:

Zach Slaughter's double started a deuce scoring second frame. Cam Ellis posted a double in the third, which saw a trio of Travelers score. In the seventh, three more were added as Scott Shuman doubled. Josh Brown had two hits in this game.

Mudcats - Lost 6-1

The Travelers managed only three hits in this contest, two by Brad Jackson.

Bay County Post 375 - Won 4-3

Dexter Lashley pitched a complete game and scored the winning run via a hit by Nathan Greene. Lashley allowed eight hits, a single walk and fanned a pair. In the initial at-batter for the orange and navy elite, Brad Jackson led off with a walk. Scott Shuman posted a one out hit, then Zach Slaughter's double would knot the game 1-1 at that point. In frame #2, a walk by Lashley and a sac fly by Ashton Harper led to a run-batted-in for Jackson, who himself scored by error.

The sixth frame proved deja vu. Again, Lashley started with a walk; he would reach second with Ashton Harper's sac fly, then third via Jackson's hit. Greene's hit brought Lashley home.

Bay County - Lost 8-3

No details available.

June 2-5 - Hard Invitational

The orange and navy pride of Americus were only able to get in two games in the HARD Invitational in Houston County/Perry due to rain outs.

Houston County - Won 7-1

Americus plated three in their half of the fifth. Josh Brown led off with a double. Andrew Langston followed up with a run-batted-in hit, and Nathan Greene walked. Lashley, Brown, and Blaze Hargrove each posted a pair of hits.

July 5-10 - Perfect Game National Championship

Americus went 2-2 at their first ever Perfect Game National Championship; the Travelers made it to the Championship round in this tournament, which was shortened by rain. Americus was defeated 3-2 by the California Bulldogs.

Summer Sizzler USSSA Invitational 17U Tournament @ Gastonia, North Carolina

The orange and navy pride of Americus ended their 2005 campaign in strong order by winning the Summer Sizzler USSSA Invitational in Gastonia, North Carolina. The Travelers outscored their opponents, 54-11.

Pitching during this tournament were Cam Ellis, Dexter Lashley, Scott Shuman, Kyle Cravey, Andrew Langston, and Will Brown. The pitching combined with power at the plate and overall great defense.
