2019 14 and Under - Coaching Staff

#01, Head Coach - Tim Estes

Coach Tim Estes founded the Americus Travelers Baseball Club in 1995 and has spearheaded the rise of this program from a recreational level team to a nationally elite program. He has been named the National Coach of the Year twice (2007, 2013) and has lead four teams to the National Championship game (2007, 2013, 2015 and 2017).

Coach Estes baseball background includes playing catcher at Americus High School, graduating in 1987 and being named to the All-Area, All-Region and All-State teams. He played catcher on scholarship at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama for Hall of Fame Coach Tom Fletcher. As a coach, he has coached a Dixie Youth City & District Championship. He served as a Volunteer assistant for two seasons at Sidney Lanier High School setting school records for wins in a season in both years. He served as a bird dog scout in the San Francisco Giants organization for two seasons and has coached the Travelers for 20+ seasons.

Professionally, Coach Estes worked for the Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department as a stadium manager from 1990-1994. He was the Assistant Director of the Americus Sumter County Recreation Authority from 1994-2008. He was named the Executive Director of the Sumter County Park=E2=80=99s and Recreation Department in 2008 -Present.

Personally, Coach Estes has been married to his wife Tammie since 1993. They have two daughters: Lexie: a junior at Georgia Southwestern State University and Ashleigh: a Senior at Schley County High School. The Estes are members of the Oasis Church of Christ in Ellaville where Tim alternates the preaching duties. He enjoys traveling to the North Georgia Mountains, fishing and the beach in what little spare time he has.

#31, Assistant Coach - Jeff Fussell

Jeff Fussell enters his sixth season as the Americus Travelers assistant coach, working mainly with the hitters. He graduated from Americus High School, where he played baseball with the Panthers from 1976-1978. Fussell also holds degrees in advanced electronics from South Georgia Technical College and in applied science from Georgia Southwestern State University.

Coach Fussell is a Certified Youth Sports Administrator and is A.F.O certified to manage aquatic facilities. He is the Recreation Manager for the Sumter County Parks and Recreation Department.

Fussell has been a successful baseball coach for many years. His knowledge of the game and his ability to motivate young men makes him a valuable member of the Travelers staff.

Coach Fussell and his wife, Susie, have two children: Kate, a registered nurse in Columbus, and Adam, a program coordinator for Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency in Woodstock. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf. He and his family are members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Plains.

Assistant Coach - Jarrod Wall

Jarrod Wall enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Americus Travelers. He graduated from Schley County High School in May 2017. He played baseball for four years, winning two state championships as a catcher. Wall currently attends Georgia Southwestern State University, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Criminal Justice. He is also beginning to serve as a volunteer firefighter in Ellaville.

Wall was born in Warner Robins and raised in Ellaville. He played for the Americus Travelers, beginning as a 13 year old in 2013, under the direction of Tim Estes, Jeff Fussell and Adam Fussell. Wall is also an Eagle Scout. He is currently employed with the Schley County School System in Ellaville as a Technology Specialist and Website Administrator in the Technology Department.

Wall's family includes his parents, Rodney and Vanessa, and his sister, Mallory. The Walls attend Ellaville Baptist Church. In his spare time, he enjoys watching football and baseball.

May 5, 2019 - Future Stars

The Americus Travelers 14U defeated the Future Stars, 3-1. Americus took the lead late; the game was knotted 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Thomas Ray hit on a 0-1 count, plating one. Tripp Thomas led the Orange and Navy with a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Pitching: Caden King led off. He went four frames, allowing one run, three hits, and sent four back to the dugout.

May 5, 2019 - Havoc Baseball

The Travelers 14U of Americus defeated Havoc Baseball, 10-5. Scoring commenced in the initial at-batter; Tripp Thomas had a hit on a 2-0 count, plating one. Americus would post 12 hits. Thomas Ray, Jack Clark and Landon Kight each had multiple hits; Ray led with three in four at-bats.

Pitching: Thomas Ray started on the mound; he went three and 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, five runs, one walk, and sent four back to the dugout.

May 5, 2019 - Future Stars

The Americus Travelers 14U won against the Future Stars, 6-5. Americus plated five in their initial at-batter to build a lead, then plated one more to head off a possible comeback from the Stars. Tripp Thomas hit on a 3-2 count, plating one Traveler. Thomas and Thomas Ray contributed a pair of hits apiece; overall Americus had seven.

Pitching: Jaxson Haire went five and 1/3 innings on the mound; he allowed five hits, five runs and sent two back to the bench.

May 11, 2019 - Bullpen Braves

The 14U Travelers of Americus won against the Bullpen Braves, 8-3. Americus would get the scoring going in their initial at-batter; Tripp Thomas tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, plating one. Thomas Ray led in hitting with a pair in two at-bats.

Pitching: Caden King went three and 2/3 frames; he allowed one hit and three scores and sent five back to the bench.

May 11, 2019 - Georgia Lookouts

The Americus Travelers 14U defeated the Georgia Lookouts, 15-2.

The 14U Travelers of Americus defeated the Bullpen Braves, 7-3. Americus would get scores going in their initial at-batter; Chase Ledger drove in one with a double. The Orange and Navy would have eight hits in the contest with a pair each coming from Ledger and Peyton Tompkins.

Pitching: Thomas Ray started; he gave up three on a pair of hits over two and 1/3 frames and sent two back to the bench.

With this game, the Americus Travelers 14U win the Mothers Day NIT Tournament.

May 18, 2019 - Johnson City Thunder

The Americus Travelers 14U won against the Johnson City Thunder, 10-2. In the Orange and Navy's third frame, five Travelers crossed home plate. Tripp Thomas tripled on the first pitch of the at-bat, plating a pair. Chase Ledger hit on a 1-0 count to score one, and Jack Clark's hit on a 1-0 count scored two Travelers. Americus would have 12 hits total in the contest with a pair each coming from Ledger, Thomas, Owen Lamb and Jaxson Haire.

Pitching: Caden King went six innings; he allowed four hits, a pair of runs, no walks and sent four back to the bench.

May 18, 2019 - Meridian Panthers

The 14U Travelers of Americus defeated the Meridian Panthers, 4-2. Americus began their scoring in their second frame; Jack Clark grounded into a double play, scoring one. The Orange and Navy scored a pair in the third frame; Thomas Ray's hit on a 3-1 count plated a pair. Dylan Davis went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead in hits. The Travelers committed no errors in the field.

Pitching: Chase Ledger went six innings; he allowed a pair of runs, nine hits, no walks and sent four back to the bench.

May 18, 2019 - Easley Baseball Goforth

The 14U Americus Travelers won against Easley Baseball, 6-5. In their initial at-batter, the Orange and Navy scored via a groundout by Thomas "Chewy" Willis, an error and a hit by Owen Lamb. Later, Caden King doubled on a 1-2 count, plating one. Tripp Thomas, Lamb, Willis, Chase Ledger and King each had one hit.

Pitching: Jaxson Haire went one and 2/3 frames, allowing a single hit and a pair of scores.

May 19, 2019 - Meridian Panthers

The Americus Travelers 14U lost to the Meridian Panthers, 10-2. Americus plated one in their initial at-batter on a triple by Thomas "Chewy" Willis. Tripp Thomas also contributed a hit in the contest.

Pitching: Jaxson Haire went two and 1/3 frames; he allowed five on three hits, one walk and struck out one. Willis, Peyton Tompkins and Owen Lamb all pitched in relief.

June 1, 2019 - Young Guns 14U

The 14U Travelers of Americus lost to the Young Guns 14U, 5-2. Jaxson Haire, Chase Ledger and Tripp Thomas each had one hit in the game.

Pitching: Thomas "Chewy" Willis went one inning; he allowed four runs on a hit and struck out a pair. Jaxson Haire went three and 1/3 frames in relief.

June 1, 2019 - Outkast

The 14U Travelers of Americus were defeated by Outkast, 8-6. The Orange and Navy posted five hits total in the contest. The Travelers would plate six in the second frame; Peyton Tompkins, Jack Clark, Thomas Ray and Tripp Thomas all drove in runs. Ray, Thomas, Thomas "Chewy" Willis, Tompkins and Jaxson Haire each had one hit.

Pitching: Owen Lamb went two innings; he allowed three runs on a pair of hits and sent three back to the dugout. Tompkins and Caden King pitched in relief; both threw one frame each.

June 2, 2019 - Home Plate Chilidogs Armour

The Americus Travelers 14U defeated the Home Plate Chilidogs Armour, 7-1. Americus would plate all seven in their third frame via hits from Chase Ledger and Owen Lamb, a fielder's choice by Jack Clark, and an error on a ball in play by Caden King. The Travelers would post 11 hits in the contest with a pair each coming from Thomas Ray and Ledger.

Pitching: Thomas Ray went four and 2/3 frames. He allowed a pair of hits and one run and sent eight back to the bench.

June 2, 2019 - Coweta Mudcats

The Americus Travelers 14U defeated the Coweta Mudcats 14U in a 10-0 shutout. Americus put two on the scoreboard in the initial at-batter via error. The Orange and Navy plated five in their third via batting led by Tripp Thomas, Chase Ledger, Jaxson Haire and Peyton Tompkins, all with RBIs. Thomas, Ledger, Haire, Tompkins, Jack Clark, Thomas "Chewy" Willis and Caden King each had a hit.

Pitching: Chase Ledger went three frames. He allowed no runs on three hits and sent three back to the bench.

The 14U Travelers of Americus lost to the Diamond Elite Aces, 8-1. Americus would plate its lone score in their fourth as Thomas "Chewy" Willis grounded out, scoring one. Tripp Thomas went 2-for-3 to lead in hits.

Pitching: Caden King allowed one run on a pair of hits over three frames. He allowed no walks and sent one back to the bench. Jaxson Haire threw two and 2/3 frames in relief.

June 15, 2019 - West Cobb Team RBI 14U

The 14U Americus Travelers defeated the West Cobb Team RBI, 6-1. Americus plated three in their fifth frame; Jaxson Haire, Chase Ledger and Thomas "Chewy" Willis all contributed runs-batted-in. Tripp Thomas hit a homerun in the Travelers third. The Orange and Navy posted 11 hits total with a pair each from Thomas, Ledger and Caden King.

Pitching: Owen Lamb went four and 2/3 innings. He allowed one score on four hits and sent five back to the bench.

June 15, 2019 - Cobb Aces

The Americus Travelers 14U tied the Cobb Aces, 1-1. Jack Clark and Tripp Thomas each had one hit in the game.

June 16, 2019 - Charlie Culberson - Red

The 14U Travelers of Americus won against the Charlie Culberson Red team, 8-7. In the Traveler's third, the contest was knotted 3-3 as Jack Clark hit on a 3-1 count to plate one run. Americus collected ten hits total in the contest with a pair each coming from Owen Lamb, Tripp Thomas and Dylan Davis.

Pitching: Caden King worked two frames. He allowed a pair of scores on a pair of hits and walked one.

June 16, 2019 - West Cobb Team RBI

The Americus Travelers 14U lost to West Cobb Team RBI, 7-0. Jaxson Haire, Tripp Thomas and Dylan Davis each had one hit in the contest.

Pitching: Chase Ledger went five and 2/3 frames. He allowed seven runs on nine hits, no walks and sent eight back to the bench. Thomas "Chewy" Willis pitched 1/3 inning in relief.

June 22, 2019 - Charlie Culberson - Blue

The 14U Travelers of Americus lost to Charlie Culberson Blue, 10-1. Americus posted seven hits total with a pair each coming from Caden King, Chase Ledger and Tripp Thomas.

Pitching: Tripp Thomas went two and 1/3 frames. He allowed four runs on four hits and sent four back to the bench. Landon Kight and Jack Clark both pitched in relief; each went 1/3 of an inning.

June 22, 2019 - Charlie Culberson - Red

The Americus Travelers 14U lost to Charlie Culberson Red team, 9-7. Americus plated six in their second frame via a hit by Peyton Tompkins, groundout by Tripp Thomas, a hit by Thomas "Chewy" Willis and an error. A fielder's choice by Tompkins brought one more score in the third. Willis would go 2-for-3 to lead in hits.

Pitching: Owen Lamb allowed no hits, three runs, and sent one back to the bench over 1/3 inning. Caden King went three and 2/3 frames in relief.

June 23, 2019 - Charlie Culberson - Blue

The Americus Travelers 14U team defeated Charlie Culberson Blue, 8-4. The Travelers scoring commenced in their initial at-batter as Dylan Davis' hit plated one run. Americus put three more on the board in their fourth via a single by Jaxson Haire, a fielder's choice by Thomas "Chewy" Willis and a double by Chase Ledger. Americus posted 15 hits total with a pair each coming from Davis, Ledger, Willis, Jack Clark and Landon Kight.

Pitching: Chase Ledger went five and 2/3 innings. He allowed eight hits, four runs, no walks and sent five back to the dugout.

July 1, 2019 - Cincinnati Patriots

The 14U Travelers of Americus defeated the Cincinnati Patriots, 5-1. Americus put scores on the board in the initial at-batter; Jaxson Haire singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one. The Orange and Navy posted eight hits total, with a pair each from Chase Ledger and Tripp Thomas.

Pitching: Caden King went three innings. He allowed one run, no hits and struck out five.

July 1, 2019 - Hurricanes Green

Americus' 14U Travelers won against Hurricanes Green, 14-1. Americus plated five in their fifth frame via walks by Dylan Davis and Jack Clark and hits by Jaxson Haire and Chase Ledger. Clark went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Pitching: Between three pitchers, no hits were allowed. Tripp Thomas induced a groundout to get the last out of the contest. Chase Ledger went three innings; he allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and sent five back to the bench.

July 3, 2019 - Red Stitch Baseball

The 14U Travelers of Americus defeated Red Stitch Baseball, 8-1. Knotted at 1-1 in their fourth frame, Jack Clark's hit on a 3-2 count plated one. Americus would score six more in their fifth inning; Chase Ledger (single - Ledger would go three hits in three at-bats) and Clark (double) each had RBIs. The Orange and Navy posted ten hits total.

Pitching: Jaxson Haire went six innings. He allowed one run, seven hits and sent three back to the dugout.

July 5, 2019 - Ironmen Midwest White<= /font>

The Americus Travelers 14U defeated the Ironmen Midwest White, 2-1. Scoring for the Orange and Navy commenced in their initial at-batter; Thomas "Chewy" Willis doubled on a 3-1 count and plated one (Willis would post a pair of hits in three at-bats). The game was knotted 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh when Tripp Thomas' hit on a 1-0 count plated one.

Pitching: Caden King went six innings for Americus. He allowed one run, four hits and sat down six.

July 6, 2019 - Diablos Gold

The Americus Travelers 14U lost to Diablos Gold, 2-1. Americus would post seven hits total in the contest. Caden King had a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Pitching: Chase Ledger went seven innings. He allowed six hits and a pair of runs, no walks and struck out four.

July 6, 2019 - Oklahoma Mudcats

The 14U Travelers of Americus defeated the Oklahoma Mudcats, 6-4. Americus was down 4-3 in the top of the fourth when Peyton Tompkins 1-0 count hit plated two Travelers. Tripp Thomas had a pair of hits in three at-bats.

Pitching: Tripp Thomas led off and went one inning. He allowed one run, no hits and sat down two.

July 6, 2019 - Diablos Gold

The Americus Travelers 14U lost to Diablos Gold, 10-2. Americus would post six hits total, with two each coming from Landon Kight and Dylan Davis.

Pitching: Owen Lamb went two innings. He allowed three runs, no hits and sent one back to the dugout. Landon Kight pitched two and 2/3 innings in relief.

With this game, the Travelers 2019 campaign comes to a close with a 19-9-1 worksheet. They emerged as Runner Up in the Grand Slam World Series.
